Attendance Matters!

We're Working to Improve Attendance and Raise Achievement

We know that students who miss too much school suffer academically at every age and every grade.  Each month I create an attendance board to acknowledge the class with the highest attendance in our school.  I often observe students looking to see which class has the highest attendance.  I also hear students comparing the percentages and checking the graphs to see that the elements they are learning about are included.

I created the graphs in Powerpoint.

This board is across from the main office and new parents get to see what our school uniform looks like when registering their children.

  1. I like the charts to help motivate students. We have an incentive where each class that has perfect attendance for the week gets an extra 10 minutes of recess the following Monday. The upper graders get it a lot, they tell their parents they have to be there. However, we have only made it once this year. With 5 year olds it is usually up to the parent if they miss not the child.

  2. Hi Laura,
I like the idea of having extra time at recess. Our students get individual awards but nothing whole class. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.
